1/21/12   Apprenticeship Position Available - Blazing Star Farm (Block Island, RI) is a very diverse 2 acre farm growing vegetables, cut flowers, and fruit.  We sell our products at farmers' markets, through our CSA, to restaurants, and also use our flowers for special events.  The skills taught during the apprenticeship can be translated to a wide range of future activities: from intensive small scale gardening to larger scale production. After a season here apprentices will have a realistic understanding of what it takes to plan, grow, and market produce and cut flowers commercially.  We focus on high quality, high value products so attention to detail is very important.  The season runs from May 1st through late Oct. 40 hours/week. 1/16/12   Assistant Field Manager Position - Malverne, Long Island, NY. Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's is seeking an Assistant Field Manager from March 15, 2012 - October 31, 2012. Duties will include care of plants in greenhouse,field planting, cultivating & harvesting, and helping to supervise other employees and volunteers. Individual will cover days off for Farm Manager, and will be expected to help maintain records for Organic Certification. Now in its ninth successful year, Adamah: The Jewish Environmental Fellowship is a three-month leadership training program for Jewish adults ages 20-32 that integrates organic agriculture, farm-to-table living, Jewish learning, community building, and spiritual practice. In 2012, we are introducing a 7-week spring fellowship option, in addition to our summer and fall 3-month programs.

A typical day is spent on our ten-acre farm, in our food-processing kitchen, and in our barnyard, helping to create a sustainable business that models ecological design, financial viability, and social responsibility. Evenings are spent learning about Judaism and sustainability, building community, and cultivating leadership skills.

An amazing staff and assortment of visiting faculty will help you listen to and follow your soul’s yearning for ecological and spiritual wholeness, recraft a Jewish identity that sings to you, and build skills and relationships that will sustain you for the rest of your life. Eva's Garden is a small certified organic farm that has supplied Boston and Providence chefs, as well as Whole Foods Markets, for over 30 years.

Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and tracking farm production, in collaboration with the farm owner and other team leaders - from ordering seed to growing and harvesting through delivery. The farm manager will provide advice on the farm’s business strategy and production processes, so that labor, equipment, and materials are used efficiently to create high-quality and profitable produce. Ideal candidates have at least 3 years of experience in organic farming (or equivalent), with strong organizational, communication, management and business skills.
